Lack of Focus vs Awesome Productivity

Lack of Focus Obstacle

Lack of focus – it’s main cause is that we live under attack. We are bombarded with information from all around, we are overwhelmed. We have Facebook, Messenger, Skype, our browsers have 20 opened tabs, we have our phone and television. All these ruin your focus. 30 years ago, people were able to focus on one task for 50 minutes. Now, the average is 7 minutes, and that’s too little.

How can you create value, to work on developing your vocation and on monetizing it, if you aren’t able to focus more than 7 minutes on a task?

It’s important for your focus to work when you have your energy reservoirs filled and a strong will, before wasting energy and willpower on small things. Distractions are all around, the phone rings, everybody wants something, and you’ll end up with no resources left for your primal goal. Then come the laziness, comfort, and procrastination.

You can’t work with your Facebook on. You simply can’t. You can’t work with your Messenger on, with your phone on, because you enter that flow state and you should stay in it. If you get a message or somebody calls, the flow breaks, and just when you try to come back, the kids arrive from school, the hurly-burly starts and your work day is over.

Lack of Focus – What can you do to solve this issue?

First, turn off all that distracts you – television, radio, music player. Set your phone on vibrating and check your messages and missed calls on your breaks only.

Second, use the Pomodoro Technique to increase your productivity.

The Pomodoro Technique was developed by a smart Italian named Francesco Cirillo, and it consists in using a timer to break down work into 25 minutes intervals, separated by 5 minutes breaks. Cirillo had a tomato-shaped kitchen timer, so he named these intervals “Pomodoros”. During pomodoros, you should work without any breaks or distractions.

The secret of this technique is to leave your desk during breaks and stop doing anything with your mind. You could pee, drink a glass of water, and stretch.

This method will give you strong focus, higher productivity and although you’ll be able to work more hours daily, you won’t feel as exhausted at the end of the day as you used to.
